Korazim, Community settlement in Northern District, Israel
Korazim is a community settlement perched on a volcanic plateau north of the Sea of Galilee, surrounded by dark basalt rock formations and hilly terrain. The location sits between the Hula Valley and the Jordan Rift Valley, making it feel somewhat removed from the agricultural lowlands that spread further south.
The settlement was founded in 1983 as a moshav before merging with a neighboring community, and it took its name from an ancient city mentioned in biblical texts. This connection to the ancient past has remained central to the place's identity ever since.
The settlement operates under the jurisdiction of Mevo'ot HaHermon Regional Council and maintains connections with Hitahdut HaIkarim, an Israeli cooperative association.
The settlement is a small, quiet place with roughly 350 residents, so visitors experience an open, tight-knit community. Access to most areas is straightforward, though the hilly terrain requires some effort if you plan to explore beyond the main roads.
The modern settlement sits about 1 kilometer west of the archaeological remains of the ancient city, where you can see well-preserved synagogue structures and carved basalt stones. This physical separation lets visitors explore both time periods as distinct experiences.
