Sdot Yam, Coastal kibbutz in Hof HaCarmel, Israel
Sdot Yam is a kibbutz on the Mediterranean coast south of Caesarea with sandy terrain and modern industrial facilities. The settlement develops and produces engineered quartz surfaces for countertops and flooring applications.
The Scouts Federation founded this settlement in 1940 after relocating to the coastal area south of Haifa. Over decades, the community grew from a small coastal collective into a major industrial center with global manufacturing operations.
The Hannah Szenes House serves as a learning space dedicated to the Hungarian paratrooper and resistance fighter from World War II. Visitors can explore stories of rescue missions and the commitment of soldiers during that period.
The site is easily reached by car and provides access to nearby beaches and surrounding areas. Visitors should note that the factory grounds are not open for tours, but the Hannah Szenes House welcomes group visits.
The kibbutz began as a fishing and farming community that later transformed through quartz processing innovations into a global manufacturer. This shift demonstrates how a small coastal collective found economic growth through technological development.
