Wilson's Arch, Ancient stone arch near Western Wall in Jerusalem, Israel
The massive stone structure spans 13 meters and supports a street while connecting the Temple Mount with the Upper City on the Western Hill.
Archaeological excavations between 2015 and 2019 determined the arch construction began between 20 BCE and 20 CE, with expansions occurring until 60 CE.
The space beneath Wilson's Arch functions as a synagogue with separate sections for men and women, allowing traditional Jewish prayer services throughout the day.
Visitors can access Wilson's Arch directly from the Western Wall Plaza, with the current ground level sitting 3 meters higher than during its construction.
Scientists found organic materials in the arch's mortar that provided precise dating information about different construction phases of this ancient structure.
