Robinson's Arch, Archaeological structure in Old City, Jerusalem, Israel
The arch extends 15.2 meters in length and rises 17.5 meters above street level, with stone blocks forming its monumental structure at Temple Mount.
Named after American scholar Edward Robinson who discovered it in 1838, this arch formed part of a stepped bridge leading to the Second Temple.
The structure represents an early staircase system connecting the street level to Temple Mount, enabling worshippers to access religious ceremonies.
Located near the Western Wall, visitors can examine the arch remains through the Jerusalem Archaeological Park and Davidson Center exhibitions.
The arch incorporated innovative engineering methods of its time, requiring 1,600 tons of stone and precise trapezoidal cutting techniques for construction.
