Ari sfaradi Synagogue, 16th-century synagogue in Safed, Israel
The ancient stone structure contains four holy arks, intricate wooden carvings, and a central platform with an adjacent historical well from the 14th century.
Built in 1301 as Eliyahu HaNavi Synagogue, it was renamed after Rabbi Isaac Luria who regularly prayed there during the mid-1500s.
The synagogue incorporates both Sephardic and Ashkenazi traditions, reflecting the diverse Jewish communities that have worshipped within its walls over centuries.
The main sanctuary remains locked due to limited daily attendance, yet visitors can explore the courtyard and observe Torah study sessions.
A small alcove on the eastern wall marks the spot where Rabbi Luria studied Kabbalah and, according to tradition, received teachings from Prophet Elijah.
