Joseph Karo Synagogue

Joseph Karo Synagogue is a place of worship in Safed with a central prayer hall featuring marble floors, stone walls, and three Torah scrolls housed in the Holy Ark. The interior shows the classic layout of a traditional Jewish prayer space with clear functional design.

Rabbi Joseph Karo arrived in Safed in 1536 and became Chief Rabbi and head of the Rabbinic Court while writing an important legal code. His presence during this period helped establish the city as a regional center for religious learning.

The synagogue maintains Sephardic prayer traditions with seating arranged around the central platform in Mediterranean Jewish style. Worshippers here follow rituals passed down through generations that shape daily prayer life.
