Avritch Synagogue, Historic synagogue in Old Jewish Quarter, Safed, Israel
The Avritch Synagogue features traditional architectural elements with an ark for Torah scrolls and interior designs characteristic of 19th-century religious buildings in Israel.
Abraham Dov Baer from Ovruch, Ukraine, established this synagogue in 1832, creating a center for Hassidic worship in one of Judaism's four holy cities.
The synagogue integrates both Sephardic and Hassidic practices, allowing different Jewish traditions to coexist within its spiritual space since the late 1800s.
Located at the northern edge of Safed's Old Jewish Quarter, the synagogue maintains regular prayer schedules and welcomes visitors for religious services.
During the earthquake of 1837, Rabbi Dov gathered his followers inside the synagogue moments before the disaster, resulting in their survival.
