Amram Columns

The Amram Columns are natural sandstone formations in southern Israel rising at the base of a western cliff beside Nahal Amram. These five distinct structures emerged through natural geological processes and shape the appearance of the surrounding desert landscape.

In ancient times the areas around the columns saw intensive copper mining operations. The Roman period left traces of this extraction activity, showing the region's importance as a source of minerals.

The name references a biblical figure and connects this place to spiritual traditions of the region. Visitors can sense this connection while standing among the natural columns and experiencing the bond to the past.

The site remains freely accessible throughout the day with no entry costs. Parking is available close to the formations, allowing visitors to reach the location conveniently from their vehicles.

These columns formed through a remarkable natural process where water penetrated vertical cracks in the cliff and gradually eroded the stone over extended time. This interplay between water and stone demonstrates how nature patiently shapes such striking structures.
