Bardoli, town in Gujarat state, India
Bardoli is a town in Surat District, in the western Indian state of Gujarat, known for cotton processing and textile manufacturing. Its streets are lined with small workshops, factories, and local markets that together form the fabric of daily activity.
Bardoli started as a trading settlement and grew into a cotton production center over the course of the 20th century. That shift gave it a lasting role within India's textile industry.
Weaving workshops are still scattered through the town's back lanes, and it is common to hear the sound of looms while walking through residential areas. This craft is passed down within families and remains a visible part of everyday life here.
The town is best explored on foot or by local transport, as many streets are narrow and busy. Basic lodging and food stalls are available throughout the town center and cater mostly to visitors on a modest budget.
Bardoli is connected to the 1928 Satyagraha campaign, a nonviolent peasant resistance against British tax policy led by Vallabhbhai Patel. The success of that campaign brought Patel to national attention and helped shape his later role in Indian history.
