Muradnagar, city and municipal board in Ghaziabad district, Uttar Pradesh, India
Muradnagar is a town in Ghaziabad district, located about 18 kilometers from Ghaziabad city along the Delhi-Meerut highway. It features a mix of older and newer buildings, with narrow lanes leading to small shops packed with colorful goods while modern residential blocks and service centers are rising nearby.
Muradnagar was founded in the 17th century by Mughal noble Mirza Muhammad Murad, whose mausoleum still stands in the town today. The town grew significantly in the 1800s due to its connection to the Upper Ganga Canal, which improved farming by bringing water to the fields for crops like wheat and sugarcane.
Muradnagar is home to Hindu and Muslim communities that celebrate festivals like Diwali, Holi, and Eid with shared enthusiasm, filling the streets with lights, colors, music, and traditional food. These gatherings bring neighbors together and keep local customs alive through prayers, dancing, and meals offered from house to house.
Muradnagar is easily reached via the Delhi-Meerut highway and has a railway station with regular connections to Delhi and Meerut. The new Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) reduces travel time to Delhi to less than an hour, making the town a convenient transit hub for visitors and commuters.
Muradnagar is home to the Ordnance Factory, a major military weapons and supplies manufacturer operating since the 1940s that provides significant employment to local residents. This industrial facility distinguishes the town and gives it a role in the country's defense production.
