Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station, Main railway station in Thampanoor, India
Thiruvananthapuram Central is a railway station in Thampanoor with five platforms and sixteen tracks serving thousands of passengers daily. It handles both express trains and local services connecting Kerala and southern India across the region.
The station opened in 1931 during Maharani Sethu Lakshmi Bayi's reign and was constructed with stone masonry. It was relocated from Chackai to a central city location to improve accessibility for travelers.
The station links Kerala's capital to major Indian cities and serves as a vital hub where travelers from across the region meet daily. The trains connecting here bring together people from different parts of southern India and beyond, making it a place where journeys and encounters happen constantly.
The station offers free Wi-Fi, escalators, and ATM services for passenger convenience. Two main entrances provide dedicated auto-rickshaw and taxi stands, making arrival and departure easy to arrange.
The station was among the first in Kerala to install a comprehensive video security system to protect passengers. The network of electronic monitoring devices was unusual for Indian railway stations at that time.
