Guru Shikhar, Mountain peak in Mount Abu, India
Guru Shikhar is the highest peak of the Aravalli Range, rising 1722 meters above the surrounding landscape. From the top, you can see across a vast expanse of Rajasthan, especially on clear days.
The temple at the summit was built in 1411 and stands as one of the oldest religious structures in this region. An ancient bell at the entrance carries an inscription confirming the construction date.
The summit holds a temple dedicated to Guru Dattatreya, a figure that Hindu devotees associate with the union of three major deities. Pilgrims and visitors come to meditate and spend time in contemplation at this sacred location.
A road extends about 15 kilometers from Mount Abu to the base of the summit, followed by steps that lead up to the temple. Wear comfortable shoes, as the climb is steep and the steps cover significant elevation gain.
An observatory operates at the summit, housing a large infrared telescope used for scientific observation and research. This makes the location a place where ancient spiritual traditions meet modern science.
