Hindan Air Force Station is a military installation in Ghaziabad, northern India, covering more than ten square kilometers. The facility includes a runway measuring around 2,700 meters (9,000 feet) and ranks among the largest air bases on the continent.
The station was established in the 1930s during British colonial rule and initially served Royal Air Force military purposes. In the 1980s, operations shifted from fighter jets to transport planes after bird strike issues threatened safety.
The Indian Air Force holds its annual parade on site, where spectators watch formation flights and demonstrations of military planes. During these events, the station opens selected areas to the public and displays several aircraft up close.
A civilian terminal opened in 2019 handles regional flights to smaller nearby cities. Travelers find eight check-in counters and facilities designed to accommodate around 300 passengers per hour.
Three C-17 Globemaster transport planes flew from here on evacuation missions to Yemen, bringing Indian nationals to safety during a crisis. These rescue flights carried hundreds of people back to India from the conflict zone.
