Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad is a large industrial city in Ghaziabad district, Uttar Pradesh, India. It extends across five administrative zones along the banks of the Hindon River and sits roughly 200 meters above sea level.

A Mughal governor named Ghazi-ud-din founded the settlement in 1740 under the name Ghaziuddinnagar. Only in 1976 was it separated from Meerut district and given its own administrative status.

The name comes from Ghazi-ud-din, a Mughal official who founded a settlement here in the 18th century. Today, people of different faiths live side by side and mostly speak Hindi and Urdu in everyday life.

Connections to the Delhi Metro, Hindon Airport and along the Delhi-Meerut Expressway make it easy to reach from the capital region. The city is well connected and can be crossed using different forms of transport.

The Scientific Society, founded during Mughal rule, is considered one of the first institutions for systematic education in northern India. Its establishment here shows the early importance of this place for learning and scholarship.
