Agasthyavanam Biological Park, Protected biological park in Kuttichal Grama Panchayat, India.
Agasthyavanam is a protected park featuring tropical evergreen and moist deciduous forests within the Western Ghats mountain range. The area consists of dense forest cover, waterfalls, and trekking trails that lead toward the Agasthyamalai peak.
The park was established in 1997 as a government initiative to address environmental degradation and create a biological reserve in Kottur, Kerala. This effort aimed to protect the biodiversity of this Western Ghats region.
The park is named after Sage Agastya from Hindu mythology and contains many plants used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine. Visitors walking through the forest can encounter healing herbs that local communities have relied on for generations.
Visits are limited to 50 people per day, so advance planning is important. The marked trekking trails are accessible and offer different difficulty levels for various fitness abilities.
The park functions as a wildlife corridor connecting two sanctuaries, allowing animals to move freely across the Western Ghats region. This connecting role makes it particularly valuable for regional ecology.
