Karni Mata, Udaipur

Karni Mata temple sits on Machla Magra Hill overlooking Doodh Talai Lake and combines traditional Rajasthani architecture with stone construction and viewing platforms. The structure offers sweeping views from different vantage points across the surrounding landscape.

The temple was built by Maharana Karan Singh between 1620 and 1628 as part of efforts to protect regional boundaries. It dates from a period when local rulers strengthened their power in Udaipur.

The temple is dedicated to the worship of Karni Mata, a revered goddess whom devotees honor through offerings and prayers. The prayer halls reflect the daily religious devotion that visitors and worshippers experience here.

Visitors can reach the temple by climbing approximately 150 steps or by taking a ropeway that takes about four minutes. The ropeway is the easier option for those wanting to avoid physical exertion.

From the hilltop, visitors can see two major lakes and the entire city laid out below at once. This view makes the location a favorite spot for photography and watching sunsets.
