Ana Sagar Lake, Artificial lake in Ajmer, India
Ana Sagar Lake is an artificial reservoir in Ajmer spanning a large water surface with buildings from different periods along its shores. The eastern section with Daulat Bagh gardens and several marble pavilions forms the main visitor zone.
The lake came into being between 1135 and 1150 through damming of the Luni River to supply water to local communities. Later, stone structures were added over time, including pavilions with marble work.
The lake takes its name from Emperor Anaji Chauhan, and its surroundings show a blend of local and Mughal architectural styles visible in the structures. People use the waterfront areas for reflection and ceremonies, particularly near the pavilions.
The site is easily accessed from the eastern side where the gardens and pavilions concentrate. Visitors should come in late afternoon when the sun is less intense, and wear appropriate clothing for sun protection.
Along the bank stands the Rishi Udyan Park where annual traditional ceremonies take place and people gather. This park is less known than the pavilions but is regularly used by locals for special occasions.
