Mundota Fort and Palace is a fortified complex combining a fort and a palace at the foothills of the Aravali Range in Rajasthan, India. It is made up of open courtyards, terraces, gardens, and pavilions spread across a large property northwest of Jaipur.
The fort was founded in the 14th century by the Naruka Rajputs, and the palace section was added in the late 15th century by Nathji of the Amer dynasty. These two building phases are still visible today in the way the site is laid out.
Hand-painted frescoes and mirror-decorated rooms are visible throughout the palace section, reflecting the Indo-Saracenic style mixed with Mughal influences. Walking through these interiors gives a direct sense of how the rulers who once lived here chose to decorate their private spaces.
The complex is located northwest of Jaipur and is easy to reach from the city by road. Plan enough time to walk around, since the grounds cover a large area with several distinct sections worth visiting.
The property is recognized as India's first luxury heritage polo resort and has its own private polo ground on site. Polo has deep roots among Rajput nobles, so the sport fits naturally into this particular historical setting.
