Betaab Valley, Mountain valley in Anantnag district, India
Betaab Valley is a mountain valley in Anantnag district surrounded by steep peaks and covered in dense forests of pine, deodar, and chinar trees. The Lidder River runs through it with blue-green waters that define the valley floor.
Originally called Hagan Valley, the location gained its current name in 1986 when a Bollywood film was shot here starring Sunny Deol. The film brought widespread attention to the remote valley and transformed it into a tourist destination.
The valley serves as a staging point for pilgrims heading to the sacred Amarnath Temple through mountain passes. Visitors sense its spiritual importance in how people gather here before continuing their sacred journey.
The valley lies roughly 15 kilometers from Pahalgam town and is easily reached by vehicle. Plan your visit between October and April when weather conditions are most favorable and access is at its best.
The valley's name comes from a Bollywood film meaning "restless love" in Hindi, and fans of the movie still visit the original filming locations here. This cinema connection has made it a pilgrimage site for movie enthusiasts from across the country.
