Karad District, Administrative district in southern Maharashtra, India

Karad District is an administrative district in southern Maharashtra situated at an elevation of approximately 565 meters above sea level. The region has a moderate climate with temperatures between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius throughout the year.

The district served as a capital during the Shilahara dynasty period before the administrative center shifted to Kolhapur in western Maharashtra. This relocation marked an important shift in regional power and governance.

The confluence of the Krishna and Koyna rivers serves as a gathering place for religious ceremonies, where visitors can observe people coming together for prayer and ritual. A memorial to Yashwantrao Chavan, Maharashtra's first chief minister, stands nearby and reflects his importance to the region.

The area connects to major cities through National Highway 48, with regular bus services available to Mumbai, Pune, Kolhapur, Solapur, and Belgaum. Visitors should plan to travel between October and March when the weather is most pleasant.

At Preeti Sangam, the Krishna and Koyna rivers meet in a rare T-shaped formation that is unique worldwide. This configuration makes the location a remarkable geographic phenomenon known for its rarity.
