Meenuliyan Para, Mountain summit in Idukki, India.
Meenuliyan Para is a mountain summit in the Idukki district of Kerala, part of the Western Ghats range. The exposed rock on the summit has a surface pattern that resembles fish scales, giving it a texture that stands out from the surrounding forested hills.
The Western Ghats, the range this summit belongs to, are among the oldest mountain formations on the planet, shaped long before human settlement in the region. The rock patterns visible on Meenuliyan Para are the result of these geological processes, slowly carved and weathered over a very long time.
The name of this summit translates roughly to "fish rock" in Malayalam, referring to the pattern on its surface that local people noticed long before any trail was marked. This connection between the name and the landscape makes the peak easy to identify even from a distance.
The trail to the summit starts from Pattayakkudy village in the Vannappuram area, and the path is easy to follow throughout. Sturdy footwear and enough water are worth carrying, as the trail can get slippery during or after rain.
From the top, you can see the Periyar River, the Bhoothathankettu Dam, and parts of both Ernakulam and Thrissur districts, even though the climb itself is shorter than most other peaks in the area. This range of view across several districts is unusual for a summit of this height.
