Cheeyappara

Cheeyappara is a waterfall in Idukki district that drops in seven distinct tiers down rocky cliffs. The cascade sits right beside the main highway between Neriamangalam and Adimali, surrounded by thickly forested mountain slopes.

The waterfall is part of the Deviyar River system that originates from the Western Ghats, an ancient mountain range formed over millions of years. This ridge has shaped the landscape of the region throughout its long existence.

Local residents consider the waterfall an integral element of Kerala's natural heritage, with many families gathering near its waters during festivals.

The waterfall is visible directly from National Highway 49, making access straightforward from the roadside. Visitors can view the cascade from the shoulder or take short walks to find better viewing spots along the rocky terrain.

The water flow intensifies greatly during monsoon months, while drier seasons see a much gentler cascade. These seasonal shifts change both how the cascade looks and the sound it makes throughout the year.
