Subramanya Temple, Munnar

Subramanya Temple sits on a small hill at 1,480 meters (4,856 feet) elevation and combines architectural features from Kerala and Tamil building traditions. The structure includes a central shrine with surrounding chambers designed to accommodate devotees during prayers and ceremonies.

The Muthuvan tribal community originally maintained the temple and cared for it over generations. The Travancore royal family later supported restoration efforts during their summer visits to the region.

The temple is dedicated to Lord Subrahmanya and serves as a gathering place for pilgrims and devotees throughout the year. Local residents visit regularly, especially during festivals when the site becomes a center of community prayer and celebration.

The temple is accessible to visitors throughout the day and is located on a hillside that is easy to reach. Pathways lead to the shrine, and there is adequate space to walk around and explore the grounds at your own pace.

The temple celebrates the Thrikarthika festival in the Malayalam month of Vrischikam and holds special ceremonies on Uthram asterism day in Meenam. These locally observed festival dates bring people together to witness rituals grounded in Hindu astronomical traditions.
