Melmaruvathur, human settlement in India

Melmaruvathur is a town in Tamil Nadu centered on a temple dedicated to the goddess Adi Parasakthi, with a sanctum housing a stone idol of the deity seated in a meditative pose. The temple also features a special platform called Om Sakthi with a trident at its center and several smaller shrines surrounding the main area.

The place began as a small farming village and became known through a legend of a Neem tree that produced sweet nectar healing people's ailments. In the 1960s, an oval stone was found beneath the uprooted tree, which later became the focus of worship and transformed the location into a spiritual center.

The town centers on devotion to the goddess Adi Parasakthi, with red clothing and garlands worn as signs of reverence. Women hold a special place here - they can perform all religious duties, and priestesses work in the sanctum, which is rare for temples of this kind.

The place is easily accessible via National Highway 45, located about 92 kilometers from Chennai and 54 kilometers from Villupuram. Bus services run to various districts in Tamil Nadu, and a nearby railway station serves travelers from different regions.

The temple features markers called Jeeva Samadhi showing where 21 wise teachers consciously left their bodies in deep meditation. These locations are believed to be sacred and powerful, offering visitors a tangible connection to the spiritual traditions that run deep in this place.
