South Point School is a private co-educational school in Kolkata that accepts students from nursery through grade twelve. It operates across two locations, one in Mandeville Gardens and one at Ballygunge Place, and a larger campus is being developed at Priyamvada Birla Campus.
The school was founded in 1954 by Satikanta Guha and his wife Pritylata Guha, making it the first co-educational school in Kolkata. It started with twenty students and has since grown into one of the best-known schools in India.
The school emblem shows a bird in flight, representing the search for knowledge. The motto "Courage to Know" encourages students to ask questions and stay curious throughout their studies.
The school has two locations in south Kolkata, in Mandeville Gardens and at Ballygunge Place, both reachable by public transport. Anyone wishing to visit the grounds should contact the school administration in advance, as access for visitors is managed by the school.
Figures from the arts such as actor and director Utpal Dutt and singer Gita Ghatak once taught at the school. Several former students have gone on to receive the Nobel Prize.
