Bhagalpur Junction railway station, railway junction station in Bihar, India
Bhagalpur Junction is an active railway station in Bhagalpur district, in the state of Bihar, India. It has six platforms arranged at surface level and offers waiting rooms, ticket counters, food facilities, Wi-Fi access, postal windows, and bookstalls.
The station opened in 1861 as part of the early expansion of the railway network across India, initially used to move indigo and other goods from the region. The main line through the station was fully electrified in 2020, marking a major step in its modernization.
The station is a daily meeting point in Bhagalpur, where commuters, students, and travelers cross paths on the platforms. Small vendors around the entrance sell tea, snacks, and everyday items to people waiting for their trains.
The station is easy to reach from different parts of Bhagalpur, with direct roads and nearby bus stops making access straightforward. Inside, footbridges and elevators link all platforms, and the main entry and exit points are at platforms 1 and 6.
A short distance from the station, in the town of Jamalpur, India's first full railway workshop was established in 1862 and still operates today. It was inside that same workshop that the first locomotive built in India, named Lady Curzon, was completed in 1899.
