Lengteng Wildlife Sanctuary, Wildlife sanctuary in Saitual district, Mizoram, India
Located in eastern Mizoram near the Myanmar border, Lengteng Wildlife Sanctuary encompasses 120 square kilometers of alpine forest and mountain terrain.
The Indian Ministry of Environment and Forests designated Lengteng as a national wildlife sanctuary in May 2001, marking a turning point for conservation.
The sanctuary management worked with local communities to end traditional New Year hunting practices in 2010, prioritizing wildlife protection.
Visitors can reach the sanctuary via a nine-hour drive from Lengpui Airport in Aizawl district, covering approximately 257 kilometers by road.
The protected area contains Mizoram's second highest peak and supports populations of vulnerable species like the northern pig-tailed macaque and Blyth's tragopan.
