Sadarghat Bridge, Concrete bridge over Barak River in Silchar, India
The Sadarghat Bridge extends 472 meters across the Barak River, connecting the city of Silchar with Kumbhirgram Airport and surrounding regions.
Gammon India Ltd constructed this infrastructure in 1966 as part of National Highway 53, establishing a critical link between Silchar and neighboring districts.
The structure, known locally in Bengali as সদরঘাট সেতু, functions as a central meeting point for residents traveling between different sections of Silchar.
Traffic regulations limit heavy vehicle access to the bridge following structural concerns, with alternative routes available through Altaf Hussain Bridge.
Engineers discovered a six-foot crack in one of the bridge pillars in 2011, leading to immediate safety measures and ongoing maintenance requirements.
