Penumudi–Puligadda Bridge, Road bridge over Krishna River in Andhra Pradesh, India
The Penumudi-Puligadda Bridge is a road bridge over the Krishna River in Andhra Pradesh, connecting Guntur and Krishna districts. It carries traffic along National Highway 214, making it one of the main crossing points in this part of the state.
The bridge was completed in 2006, replacing the ferry services that had been the only way to cross the river at this point. Its construction greatly improved the link between the two districts.
Below the bridge, traditional bathing areas along the riverbank serve as gathering spots for worshippers during religious festivals. These places are still used today for ritual bathing, just as they have been for generations.
The bridge has a toll facility, and since it is used daily by heavy vehicles and cars, traffic can build up at busy times. If you want to stop and look at the river, it is better to find a spot near the riverbank before or after crossing.
The ritual bathing spots below the bridge existed long before the bridge was built and were never abandoned, even as the structure was erected directly above them. This means two completely different uses share the same space without displacing each other.
