Rabat Tepe

Rabat Tepe is an archaeological mound in northwestern Iran with multiple layers of settlement from different time periods stacked one above another. This layered structure allows researchers to read the region's history by studying what each level reveals about past inhabitants.

The mound built up over centuries as different groups of people settled and rebuilt in the same location repeatedly. Excavations have uncovered Iron Age objects, including a written tablet, that document when and how people inhabited this place.

The pottery and tools found at this mound reflect how people made and used objects in daily life across different eras. These discoveries show the skills and knowledge that early communities passed down through generations.

The site sits a short distance east of Sardasht and can be visited for archaeological study and observation. It helps to read about the site beforehand so you can better understand what you see when you arrive.

A written tablet from the Iron Age was discovered here that shows this place had contacts with distant regions through trade. This tablet is one of the few written records surviving from this early period in the area.
