Casa Romuli, Archaeological site on Palatine Hill, Italy

The Hut of Romulus features oval foundations measuring 4.9 by 3.6 meters carved into the bedrock at the southwest corner of Palatine Hill.

Archaeological excavations in 1946 revealed circular post holes arranged with one in the center, supporting theories about the original structure from 900-700 BCE.

The residence represented the traditional Latin farmhouse design with thatched roof and wattle-and-daub walls similar to miniature funeral urns of Latial culture.

The site stands near the Steps of Cacus on the slope leading to Circus Maximus, marking the reported location of Rome's first dwelling.

After multiple fires through centuries, ravens carrying burning meat from an altar reportedly caused the final documented destruction in 12 BCE.
