Villa Mills, Historical building on Palatine Hill in Rome, Italy
Villa Mills stood between Via di San Bonaventura and Via dei Cerchi, constructed directly above the ancient Roman structures of Domus Augustana and Domus Flavia.
The building, originally named Villa Mattei al Palatino, occupied land belonging to Cardinal Alessandro Farnese's gardens until its demolition in the early twentieth century.
The Renaissance loggia contained frescoes by Baldassarre Peruzzi featuring zodiac signs, muses, and classical themes created by artists from Raphael's workshop.
The site now functions as an archaeological area, with the Palatine Museum housed in a nineteenth-century structure built by the Visitation sisters.
Charles Mills and archaeologist William Gell purchased the property in 1818, adding British architectural elements that made it resemble a Delhi bungalow.
