Refuge Monte Bianco, Mountain hut in Val Veny, Courmayeur, Italy.
Refuge Monte Bianco is a mountain shelter located at 5577 feet (1700 meters) in Val Veny that provides 19 rooms and a dining area for mountaineers exploring the Mont Blanc massif. The facility is built with sleeping quarters and a kitchen area designed to serve climbers and hikers moving through the high Alpine terrain.
The shelter grew from summer camps organized by UGET Torino beginning in 1925, but was destroyed by fire in 1952 and subsequently rebuilt. It officially reopened in July 1953 and has remained a working mountain facility since then.
This mountain shelter represents a long-standing Alpine culture where climbers from around the world gather to share meals and stories in a high-altitude setting. It serves as a meeting point for those seeking mountain traditions and local food prepared in a working Alpine kitchen.
During summer months visitors can reach the shelter by car or mountain trails, while winter access depends on ski lifts or snowmobiles. The best time to visit is June through September when paths are clear and weather is more stable.
During winter evenings the restaurant delivers meals by snowmobile to guests, creating an unusual dining experience at high altitude. This practice allows visitors to enjoy hot food in one of the most isolated settings in the Alps without leaving their rooms.
