Municipio 2, Administrative district in northeastern Milan, Italy
Municipio 2 is an administrative district in northeastern Milan that includes four main residential neighborhoods: Crescenzago, Gorla, Greco, and Loreto. The area combines residential streets with the Central Railway Station, which serves as an entry point for many arriving in the city.
The area was shaped by the Naviglio Martesana canal, which transported goods and powered factories. In the late 1800s, railways became the primary transport method and reshaped the district as the canal declined in importance.
The district is home to diverse communities whose presence is visible in shops and streets throughout the area. Viale Padova especially shows this mix through its varied businesses and the people who work and live there.
The Central Railway Station is centrally located in this district and easily accessible by metro and bus connections. Most streets are relatively flat and easy to walk, making the residential neighborhoods approachable on foot.
A local government council with 30 elected representatives manages daily affairs of the district. This means decisions about schools, waste management, and other services happen right here, shaped by members directly accountable to residents.
