Santa Maria Immacolata e Giovanni Berchmans, Catholic church in Tiburtino district, Rome, Italy.
Santa Maria Immacolata e Giovanni Berchmans is a church in the Tiburtino neighborhood built with exposed brick walls and Romanesque Revival details. The building features a central entrance, a large circular window above it, and a tower added to one side.
The church was built between 1906 and 1909 on the orders of Pope Pius X to serve the growing neighborhood. A bell tower inspired by the Basilica di San Marco in Venice was added in 1929.
The interior decorations by Mario Prayer from 1946 to 1954 include 'Triumph of the Virgin among Saints and Martyrs' in the apse.
The church sits on Piazza dell'Immacolata and is easy to reach by public transit. You can walk around the outside to see the brick facade and tower from different angles.
The bell tower, added in 1929, draws inspiration from St. Mark's Campanile in Venice and contains six bells for traditional religious announcements.
