Museo Biscari, Archaeological museum in central Catania, Italy
The Museo Biscari contains natural exhibits and historical artifacts within the grand Palazzo Biscari, featuring decorated halls and extensive collections of ancient treasures.
Duke Ignazio Paterno founded the museum in 1758, commissioning architect Girolamo Palazzotto to design dedicated rooms for displaying the growing collection of antiquities.
The museum became a central point for scholars during the 18th century, with notable visitors including Johann Wolfgang von Goethe during his Italian journey in 1787.
Located at Via Museo Biscari 10 in Catania, the museum operates daily from 7:00 to 13:00 and 15:00 to 19:00, with additional hours available by appointment.
In 1927, the majority of the museum's collection transferred to Castle Ursino, leaving select original pieces within the baroque palace's 700 rooms.
