Punta Margherita

Punta Margherita rises to 4,066 meters within the Grandes Jorasses range, forming a natural boundary between the territories of Courmayeur and Chamonix-Mont-Blanc.

The mountain received its name in honor of Queen Margherita of Italy during the period of extensive Alpine exploration and mapping in the late 19th century.

The peak represents a meeting point between French and Italian mountaineering traditions, with guides from both nations leading expeditions to its summit.

Climbers need advanced technical skills and proper equipment to navigate the challenging ascent routes, particularly during winter conditions from December through March.

The summit marks a critical watershed point where precipitation divides between the Adriatic Sea and Mediterranean Sea drainage systems.
