Tafilah Governorate, Administrative region in southern Jordan
Tafilah Governorate is an administrative region in southern Jordan situated at about 940 meters elevation, marked by mountainous terrain, deep valleys, and natural springs. The territory spreads across varied landscapes with numerous towns and villages scattered throughout.
The region was home to the ancient Edomite civilization and shows signs of human settlement stretching back tens of thousands of years. Archaeological findings in the caves provide evidence of this long history of human presence.
The people here have farmed olives and fruits for generations using traditional methods suited to the mountain heights. This agricultural tradition continues to shape daily life and the look of the land today.
The region connects to Amman through the King's Highway with regular transportation services between towns. Visitors can also easily reach the Dana Biosphere Reserve and other natural sights located within or nearby.
The territory holds substantial mineral deposits including copper and manganese that have long been part of the local economy. These mineral resources represent a lesser-known aspect of the region beyond its natural attractions.
