Ba'ja

The Neolithic village of Ba'ja contains multiple stone structures built on steep slopes, connected through internal staircases and featuring thick walls with basements.

The settlement originated around 7400 BCE during the Pre-Pottery Neolithic B period, representing one of the earliest known permanent human settlements in the region.

Archaeological findings at Ba'ja include stone axes, bowls, and an ossuary containing remains of twelve individuals along with jewelry and arrowheads beneath floors.

Ba'ja sits at 1160 meters elevation within a narrow canyon, 14 kilometers north of Petra, and requires climbing routes to access the location.

A discovered necklace containing 2500 beads was found in a decorated tomb of a young girl, indicating advanced craftsmanship and stable food resources.
