Higobashi Station, metro station in Osaka, Osaka prefecture, Japan
Higobashi Station is an underground metro stop in Chuo-ku, Osaka, served by the Yotsubashi Line of the Osaka Metro network. It has several exits that open onto different streets of the surrounding business district.
The station opened in 1965 as part of the extension of the Yotsubashi Line, when Osaka was building out its metro network across the city center. It was added to serve the growing number of workers and businesses moving into this part of Chuo-ku.
The name Higobashi refers to a bridge that once crossed a now-vanished canal in this part of the city, and the name still lives on through the station. Today the surrounding streets are lined with office towers, and the flow of commuters through the exits shapes the pace of the neighborhood.
Signs inside the station are in both Japanese and English, which makes it easy to find the right exit even on a first visit. Checking which exit number leads closest to your destination before leaving the platform saves time on the street above.
The Yotsubashi Line that serves this station runs parallel to the much busier Midosuji Line and tends to carry fewer passengers throughout the day. Travelers who discover it often find it a quieter way to move through central Osaka without the crowding common on the main line.
