Tameike-Sannō Station, Metro interchange station in Nagatachō, Japan
Tameike-Sannō is an underground railway station that spans across Chiyoda and Minato wards, connecting the Ginza and Namboku lines. The station has two island platforms serving a total of four tracks.
The station opened on September 30, 1997, as the southern terminus of the Namboku Line. The Ginza Line platforms began operating at the same time.
The name comes from a former reservoir and the nearby Hie Shrine, which remains an important religious site in the neighborhood today. Visitors can access the shrine from the station and observe how this place shapes the daily life of people in the area.
Underground passages connect the station to nearby Kokkai-gijidō-mae Station, allowing transfers between lines without passing through ticket gates. Visitors should allow extra time to navigate the connecting passages, as they cover significant distance.
The station provides direct access to the Kantei, the official residence of Japan's Prime Minister, and to the 194-meter Sanno Park Tower. This location makes the station a transport hub for a highly secured government area.
