Shiojiri Station, Railway interchange station in Shiojiri, Japan
Shiojiri Station is a railway station in Shiojiri situated at about 726 meters above sea level. It connects the Chuo Main Line heading north to the Shinano Line going southwest across multiple ground-level platforms accessible by elevated covered passages and elevators.
The station opened in September 1902 as a junction for travelers and cargo. In 1988 operations shifted to a new location as the original infrastructure was outdated.
The name refers to a historic location where salt traders gathered centuries ago. Today visitors walk through a space where trains from different directions come and go, with clear markings showing the station's two operational zones.
The station has luggage storage areas near the train boarding points. Covered walkways connect all sections and provide shelter in any weather.
The station sits at a location historically tied to grape cultivation, and the surrounding region remains an active vineyard area. This connection between rail transport and agricultural tradition gives the site a particular local significance.
