Gunma Prefecture, Administrative prefecture in Kanto region, Japan
Gunma Prefecture extends across 6,362 square kilometers of land, containing mountains in the west and north regions, with plains in the southeast section.
The region, established in 1871, was formerly known as Kenono, later becoming Kamitsuke Province before its transformation into the current administrative division.
The prefecture maintains strong connections to silk production traditions, with numerous historical silk mills and manufacturing facilities throughout its cities and towns.
The Joetsu Shinkansen railway line connects major cities within Gunma to Tokyo, while local buses and trains provide transportation between towns and tourist spots.
The region contains multiple natural hot spring locations, including Kusatsu Onsen, where mineral-rich waters flow at temperatures reaching 95 degrees Celsius.
