Ōmachi

Located at an elevation of 800 meters, Omachi extends across 565 square kilometers between the Northern Japanese Alps and the Matsumoto Basin mountains.

The area transformed from part of the Matsumoto Domain during the Edo period to an independent municipality in 1889, achieving city status in 1954.

The Chojiya Salt Road Museum presents artifacts and information about the ancient trade route that connected Shinano Province with the Sea of Japan.
