Hachioji

Located in the foothills of the Okutama Mountains, Hachioji extends across 186 square kilometers with residential areas surrounded by mountains on three sides.

The city developed as a major post station along the Koshu Kaido road during the Edo period and became a significant silk production center in the Meiji era.

Multiple universities including Chuo University and Tokyo Metropolitan University make Hachioji an educational center with a large student population in western Tokyo.

The JR Chuo Line connects Hachioji to central Tokyo with frequent trains reaching Shinjuku Station in 40 minutes through direct rail service.

Mount Takao rises at the western edge of Hachioji, offering hiking trails and Buddhist temples that attract visitors throughout the four seasons.
