Bakurochō Station, Underground railway station in Nihonbashi-Bakurochō, Japan
Bakurochō is an underground railway station located in the Nihonbashi-Bakurochō district of Tokyo, operated by JR East on the Sōbu Rapid Line. The facility consists of a single island platform below street level with two tracks, where Track 1 serves trains heading toward Tokyo and Track 2 serves trains heading toward Chiba.
The station opened on July 15, 1972, during an expansion of Tokyo's railway network designed to meet growing urban transport needs. It was built as part of the Sōbu Tunnel system, creating underground connections through Tokyo's densely populated center.
The station name originates from the Bakuro-cho district, which developed as a central location for wholesale markets and merchant activities.
The station connects through a short walking passage to the Toei Asakusa Line at Higashi-nihombashi Station and the Toei Shinjuku Line, allowing transfers between different subway lines. Signage and announcements in multiple languages help with navigation through the underground corridors.
The station carries the code JO21 in JR East's numbering system, which helps travelers identify connections quickly. This code appears on all platforms, signs, and network maps throughout the system.
