Kōtō-ku

Koto extends over 40 square kilometers across eastern Tokyo, bordered by the Sumida River and featuring multiple artificial islands along Tokyo Bay.

The ward formed in 1947 through the consolidation of Fukagawa and Joto districts, preserving numerous waterways that served as transportation routes during the Edo period.

The Fukagawa Edo Museum presents full-scale replicas of historical streets, while Kiyosumi Garden displays traditional landscaping techniques from the Meiji era.

The ward contains multiple sports facilities used during the 2020 Olympics, connected by an efficient network of train stations including Kameido, Toyosu, and Shin-Kiba.

Artificial islands such as Toyosu, Tatsumi, and Wakasu compose the southern section of Koto, hosting modern developments and waterfront recreational spaces.
