Kōtō-ku, Special ward in Tokyo, Japan

The district extends over 40 square kilometers across eastern Tokyo, bordered by the Sumida River and featuring multiple artificial islands along Tokyo Bay that accommodate residential and commercial areas.

The district formed in 1947 through consolidation of Fukagawa and Joto districts, preserving numerous waterways that served as transportation routes during the Edo period and facilitated commercial growth.

The Fukagawa Edo Museum presents full-scale replicas of historical streets, while Kiyosumi Garden displays traditional landscaping techniques from the Meiji era, offering visitors insight into past epochs.

The district contains multiple sports facilities from the 2020 Olympics and connects to the rest of the city through an efficient network of train stations including Kameido, Toyosu, and Shin-Kiba.

Artificial islands such as Toyosu, Tatsumi, and Wakasu compose the southern section and host the modern Toyosu Fish Market, which replaced the historic Tsukiji Market in 2018 and attracts thousands of daily visitors.
