Awa district, Administrative district in Chiba Prefecture, Japan
Located at the southern tip of the Bōsō Peninsula, Awa District spans 45.16 square kilometers and contains the town of Kyonan.
The district emerged from Kazusa Province in 718, becoming a separate province until the Meiji Restoration and later transforming into its current form in 1878.
The district holds numerous historical sites from the Nara period, reflecting the region's connection to maritime trade and Imperial Court food supplies.
The district maintains a population density of 198 persons per square kilometer and provides direct access to the waters of Tokyo Bay.
Through multiple consolidations, Awa District transformed from 93 original hamlets into a single administrative unit centered around Kyonan town.
