Mount Dainichi, Mountain peak in Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
Mount Dainichi rises to an elevation of 1,709 meters within the Ryōhaku Mountains, forming a natural boundary between the cities of Gujō and Takayama.
The mountain previously marked the intersection of three ancient Japanese provinces - Mino, Hida, and Echizen - before becoming part of Gifu Prefecture in 1958.
Rain falling on Mount Dainichi feeds three significant Japanese waterways: the Nagara River, the Shō River, and the Kuzuryū River, supporting local agriculture.
Hikers access multiple climbing routes leading to the summit, where clear conditions provide views extending to the neighboring peaks of the Ryōhaku range.
The mountain changed its administrative location from Fukui Prefecture to Gifu Prefecture during the governmental reorganization known as the Great Shōwa Mergers.
