Kōhoku-ku, Municipal administrative district in Yokohama, Japan
Kōhoku-ku is an administrative district in Yokohama in Kanagawa Prefecture, bordered by Tsurumi, Kanagawa, Midori and Tsuzuki wards. The district covers an area of approximately 31 square kilometers (12 square miles) in the eastern part of the prefecture.
The territory belonged to Tsuzuki District in Musashi Province during the Edo period and was managed by hatamoto officials under Tokugawa administration until 1868. After the Meiji Restoration the territory became part of the newly organized Kanagawa Prefecture.
The Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum in the district presents Japanese food culture through exhibits and restaurants that show regional noodle preparation methods. Visitors can choose between different ramen styles from different parts of Japan and directly experience how each region interprets its own noodle soup.
The ward office processes important documents for residents at 26-1 Mamedocho and opens Monday through Friday from 8:45 AM to 5:00 PM, with select services on Saturdays. Most forms and applications require basic knowledge of Japanese or assistance from an interpreter.
Nissan Stadium in the ward hosted the 2002 FIFA World Cup Final and is the largest stadium in Japan with a capacity of 72,327 seats. The arena is frequently used for major football matches and occasionally for concerts and other public events.
